Movie-going in 2012

2012 is almost over. Again I find myself thinking ahead to the Oscars. Again I'm considering reviewing a couple dozen films with the hopes of better remembering the ones I've seen and evaluating them in a more critical light. And again, I find that I've missed many interesting films, and chosen to ignore even more.
Please take this opportunity to inform me if I should skip a film on my "to see" list, or see a film on my "to skip" list. I value your opinion!

    Hi Ivan,

Two that might warrant your attention are “The Grey” and “Seven Psychopaths”. I also notice “Lincoln” is not on your list and while I find Spielberg overly sentimental, I always enjoy Day-Lewis’ performances. As Lincoln, he didn't disappoint.

I am glad to see "Monsieur Lazhar" is on your radar. It is a very fine film and I think very highly of it. No so for “Killing them Softly.” Granted it’s probably as bad as some of the other movies you will either skip or would like to see, but I had higher expectations and so tend to view it a little more harshly.

“The Dictator” and “Ted” were both pretty funny. I watched each once and didn’t regret doing so, although that is not to say I’ll watch them again.

    All the best,

    KW.

    1. It appears that there were a couple errors on my list and I took the liberty of correcting them.

I really enjoyed "Monsieur Lazhar". I watched it with Elise in French and we agreed it was a solid film, although I admit I still prefer "A Separation" and I'm glad it won 2011's Best Foreign Film.

I did see "Lincoln" and I agree about the lead role. In fact, a couple friends of mine recently suggested that Day-Lewis might very well be the most skilled actor currently living.

"The Dictator" was fun -- I saw it in theaters -- but I still plan to skip "Ted". I'm not familiar with "Seven Psychopaths".

Almost rented "The Grey" this weekend but Elise voted it down because she felt it might be too violent.
